About Events Management | BA (hons) in Leeds Beckett University

Course Details

Events have increasingly become important markers and influencers in our lives. Whether in sport, the arts, business or politics, not a day goes by without a major event taking place somewhere in the world.

From massive events like Glastonbury Festival to intricate product launches, you will gain the ability to plan, promote and produce events of all sizes, including managing staff and suppliers as well as adhering to licensing requirements. You will also learn how to run your own events business.

Coming with some experience of events, whether through volunteering at a school prom or working directly in an events environment, this course will build a solid foundation for your continuing study. You will be taught by highly experienced events practitioners, all members of the UK Centre for Events Management, which is based here at the university.

Our applied management course is dedicated to getting you into the events industry, and our experienced lecturers will help you find your way. All modules on the course are contextualised into the events industry - everything you learn will have a practical application when you begin your career.

This course offers the opportunity to take a ‘sandwich’ year – a year of paid employment in industry which will build your skills and experience. This is usually taken between the second and third year of your degree, typically making your course four years in total. Students who choose the sandwich route find it helps with both their studies and getting a job after graduation. It can build your confidence, contacts, and of course your CV. Leeds Beckett advertise lots of placement opportunities and provide support in helping you find the right placement for you.

The university has been given a five-star rating for our academic work in Hospitality & Leisure Management by QS, the international higher education benchmarking agency.

Course Benefits

We would strongly recommend that you complete the sandwich option of this course which includes a one-year placement in industry to give you the relevant, real-life event experience that will significantly improve your employment prospects once you graduate. There will be a variety of further opportunities to gain paid or voluntary work experience at various events throughout your course.

Our Events Society is one of the largest in the university, and you will be made very welcome. As a member of the busy society, you can gain extra qualifications, for example a first aid certificate. You may also be able to plan and implement your own events.

Guest lecturers working in the industry will provide you with insight into today's events environment and business strategy.
